Description
A Heritage of Quality: Boekenhoutskloof
Named after the bronze wolves that still guard the entrance to the historic Boekenhoutskloof farm, The Wolftrap Red is crafted under the watchful eye of one of South Africa’s most respected winemaking teams. The fruit is sourced from select vineyards across the Western Cape, specifically chosen for their ability to produce a wine that is rich in “Old World” spice but balanced by “New World” fruit purity.
The Blend: A Secret Recipe
What makes The Wolftrap unique is the clever inclusion of a white grape (Viognier) in a red blend:
Syrah (Shiraz): The backbone of the wine, providing dark fruit and black pepper spice.
Mourvèdre: Adds an earthy, savory depth and firm structure.
Viognier: A small percentage is co-fermented to lift the aromatics, adding a hint of floral perfume and a silky mouthfeel.
Tasting Profile
Aroma: A complex nose of ripe blueberries, plums, and violets, underpinned by notes of smoky bacon, cloves, and cracked black pepper.
Palate: Medium-to-full bodied. The palate is velvety and rich, offering flavors of dark fruit, liqourice, and savory spice.
Finish: A smooth, persistent finish with gentle tannins that make it incredibly easy-drinking.
Food Pairing & Lifestyle
This case of 6 is the perfect companion for social gatherings and hearty meals:
The Braai: A natural partner for spicy sausages (boerewors), lamb chops, and marinated steaks.
Comfort Food: Complements wood-fired pizzas, game stews, and rich pasta dishes.
Entertaining: Because it is so balanced, it is the ideal “crowd-pleaser” for parties where you want to serve a wine with a great story and even better taste.
